Franconia incorporates an area of 23.006,84 km² with about 4,4 million inhabitants what is about one third of the population of Bavaria.

It differs from the rest of Bavaria, which is in the world often meant as a synonym for Germany, especially by its cultural and linguistic peculiarities, its characteristic landscape and its history.

Secondary mountains in the northeast, wide plains in the southwest and the stream landscape of the river Main in the west emboss the region.

Many wordlwide known companies are based in Franconia and it achieves, especially in the Metroregion of Nuremberg, nearly half of the whole bavarian gross national product.

The major cities of Franconia are Nuremberg, Wuerzburg, Fuerth, Erlangen, Bayreuth, Bamberg, Aschaffenburg, Schweinfurt, Hof, Coburg, Ansbach and Schwabach.
